Sustainable development Through Training.

1. Background information:

The Forestry Training Institute ( FTI) was established in 1937 to provide a two year training for Forest Rangers at certificate level. It is operating the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. The institute has expanded gradually both academically and structurally. This improvement has been achieved through the commitment of the government of Tanzania ( GOT) and other external donors. Both national and international students are recruited and admitted every year.

2. Location, Weather:

FTI is located 17 Km north of the Arusha municipality and about 3.2Km from Ngaramtoni off the Arusha - Nairobi road. The institute occupies an area of about 325ha. and lies on the footsteps of Mt. Meru ( 4,979 m), the second highest mountain in Tanzania and along latitude 3°17' and 36°40' E.
Temperature are around 28°C in February and go as low as 10°C in July. The mean annual rainfall is 800mm.
